Jesus saw Potential in Imperfect Men!

I want to start with a prayer: Father, I'm so glad that you never gave up on us. And you love us. And you're working in our lives. And you have a plan for our lives that far exceeds perhaps even our wildest dreams. And that plan ultimately is good for your glory. So we pray now that as we open your Word, that you speak to us. Amen!

One of those days, Jesus went to a mountainside to pray, and He spent the night praying to God. When morning came, He called His disciple to Him and chose twelve of them, whom He also designated apostles: Simon, who He called Peter, his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor." Luke 6: 12-16

These twelve men were imperfect and flawed. Ordinary men with defects and pretty much on the wild side.

Why God chooses the unlikely, over those who are seemingly perfect. (Though no one is)

Things are not always as they appear. Why would Jesus pick these guys? Paul gives us a clue inn 1 Corinthians 1:27, when he says, "God deliberately chose the things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. In other words, God is not looking for resumes. He's looking for availability. His apostles were human. Hopelessly huma. Not perfect. Flawed people just like you and just like me.

Jesus sees your potential.

Jesus doesn't just see you for what you are. He sees you for what you can become. You see all of your shortcomings, all of your flaws, all of your mistakes, all of your sins. He sees all that. But he also sees you for what he can make you into, a new person in Christ, old things passed away, everything becoming fresh and new. God can change your life.

If you believe in Jesus, he'll forgive you of your sin and give you a fresh start. That's why he uses the term "born again." That's what he said to the religious leader, Nicodemus. "You must be born again. John 3:1-8

Only he can save you. A preacher can't save you; a church organization cannot save you, only Jesus.

Just pray, "Lord Jesus, I know that I'm a sinner. But I know that you're the Savior who died on the cross for my sin and rose again from the dead. I turn from my sin now. And I choose to follow you from this moment forward. In Jesus name I pray. AMEN!"
